Adding Life to Yours! .
Fruit Plants Trees & Vines Currently there is a World Wide Threat to the Citrus Industry and yes, it affects EVERYBODY who loves vitamins from or just enjoy the awesome taste of citrus fruits. You can read about it here (Click this link). The usual suspect is an insect vector & is said to have originated from Asia. Most of the deadly environmental diseases we have had contaminate or do have causing destruction in the USA have come from Asia. I believe strict regulation on the importing of goods is essential and (maybe even too late), especially imports such as woods (furniture) & certain plant material that might bring such things into our country. Even a 14 day quarantine on certain imports might help aid in preventing the releasing of some very nasty (some unstoppable & un-beatable). So far, it seems that nothing is done until after the fact and by then, it is too late. We thank you for your business!
Euterpe oleracea Acai Assai Super Berry (Pará Dwarf) - Zones 8b-11, Cold Hardy to about 32-33ºF: Due to the extreme and highly nutrient content of the berries, I had to place this palm in the fruit page. Besides being one of the fastest growing palms known, this Euterpe palm has been known for centuries by the natives (where it resides in the native habitat of Brazil) for its highly nutritious berries. Not only are these palms majestic in appearance and make an excellent understory palm or living piece of furniture for well lit lobbies and offices, but are a natural source of nutrients. A true hidden gem! Trees grow to heights of about 10-12ft on slender trunks with wispy pinnate feather fronds. The heart of the palms are also eaten yet this destroys the palms. Because they are so fast growing in tropical climates, eating the hearts is widely practiced where these palms are grown. They can begin producing their delicious fruit only after about 3 years after germination. They do need tropical climate to produce this fast and are not known to grow indoors without proper lighting. The other variety of Acai palm produces about half as much fruit per palm. The fruit from this species is so nutritious that its thought to cure cancer or at minimum prevent it from its high anti-oxidant content. The health benefits continue with anti-aging properties, weight loss, heart disease, blood pressure, muscle building, immune system building and diabetes. The darker the berry or fruit in all fruit plants, generally means the higher the nutrient content and the better it is for your body. Other foods that are rich in similar ingredients (anthocyanins) that reduce the freer radicals include, but certainly not limited to: blueberries, red grapes and red wines. I have seen the juice available in local grocery stores over the last 2-3 years. it is a worthwhile beverage. WAY better than having a V-8! That is unless it's a beefed up 289 inside a 1966 Mustang coupe with a 6-pack progressive linkage carb system and a three screamer tranny. Sorry, life flashback, I'm kidding, highly nutrient food is better than a hot rod and is one reason why that mint shape, glossy black auto does not sit my garage any longer (among other reasons of life). Probably these palms could grow in a controlled environment such as a greenhouse or glass house conservatory in northern areas or areas that are prone to freezes and heavy frosts. These palms are a very high producer of seeds and just two palms that are producing seed berries for you could probably produce enough for your average house. Remember that palms are not actual trees but are a member of the grass family and cannot be trimmed as to control their height. They must be allowed to grow. Since these are naturally short palms, they do make it easier for harvesting. It's best to harvest these before the animals get to them first. Double the benefit with this palm, a beautiful palm plus highly nutritional fruit in a short amount of time for a long living palm.
Kiwi fruit Female "Vincent" & Actinidia 'Chinese Tomuri' - Cold Hardy to 10 degrees! These particular cultivars (Vincent & Tamari) are best suited for the warm temperate conditions of Southern Florida, California and Texas. They need at least 240 frost free days to produce fruit. Since they can be container grown, maybe be over wintered indoors during those days to make it possible to grow this in cooler regions. On top of being a beautiful full leafed climbing vine with red stems, that is cold hardy to about 10 degrees, maybe colder, these wonderful vines can produce some of the best tasting and most popular fruits known. They grow to about 25 feet long and 9-12 feet high and can cover an area 10-12ft wide. They should be trellis trained or grown on a patio wall. They are well suited for a large container. The vines are as ornamental as they are welcomed for their great tasting fruit. Being virtually pest and disease free, these make an easy to grow plant! This plant vine will grow as it ages to form a very thick base if pruned every winter. Since these plants need a cold spell to produce fruit and strengthen the plants, they are adaptable to many environments. They are dioecious and need both sex plants to produce fruits. Typically one male per 3 females is adequate. They should be harvested from November 1st – 15th for best fruit. Cold hardy, easy to grow and a beautiful vine makes this a with while addition to your home! Get Male and Female Kiwi Fruit Plant Vines Together:
Japanese Loquat Tree (Eriobotrya Japonica) - Zones 7a-11. A Very fast growing evergreen, cold hardy, frost hardy and a beautiful shade tree known for its yellow-orange sweet edible plum fruit and beautiful long, large and wide dark green leaves. The fruit clusters two - three times yearly and the blossoms make beautiful white fragrant flowers attracting butterflies and birds. The leaves are wide and long and provide shade for the yard. These great trees grow extremely fast and with proper fertilization will shade the piece of property in no time. They like full sun to partial shade but is best to plant them in full sun to reach optimal size. These young trees listed here should be 5-10 feet tall or taller by the end of next growing season and should be fruiting the following year. They prefer partially filtered light but will grow well in full sun. Fully mature tree can grow to 30 feet tall and 20 ft wide. Every home should have a couple of these. Kids love to pick and eat their tasty fruit! I always did and still do. They rarely get harmed by frost or cold damage, so much so that in the winter of 2006 Jacksonville and Palm Coast Florida had about 3 nights of lower than normal temperatures. This produced the newest foliage from the trees to brown a few weeks later. The local officials sent samples from various landscapes to the University of Florida for testing of Fire Blight. The results came back negative of any pathogens. It was just that it really got cold. All the trees lives and the only affected parts were the newest foliage. Even the fruit finished ripening and were everywhere in spring. They survived the drought of 2005-2007 that Florida had and actually produced more fruit then I've ever noticed. All the trees and palms did. This must be a defense mechanism built into these plants as survival method. They do not need multiple plants to produce fruit. One will provide you with much fruit! The seedlings at this size should be bearing fruit in 2 years from now and the trees should be at heights at least 10-12 feet tall with 4-6 inch caliper trunks providing shade in the area you place them. They do like full sun but will grow in partial shade. Mature Japanese Loquat Plum Tree Fruit Pictured
Sharp Blue Blueberries (Vaccinium virgatum) Tree Saplings :::... NEW ...::: Best for those with MILD Winter Climates. There are many varieties of Blueberries to choose from so we will do our best to provide some choices in the near future. The Sharp Blue variety of Blueberry Fruiting Trees is patented from the University of Florida for commercial growers and can also be enjoyed by the home gardener. Needing only a 150 hours of chill weather to bear blooms for fruit, these are one of the fastest maturing fruiting blueberries plants known. They are also a very delicious medium to large sized fruit to behold. Blue Berry Trees need a very low soil pH of 4-5.5 to grow their best. If the pH gets higher than 5.5 the Blueberries will experience deficiencies in zinc & iron. They need about 2-3% organic matter all the time. Most people use pine bark and plant them directly into the pine mulch adding more pine mulch as the trees mature. In the fall they sport a pretty red foliage. Blueberry plants are dioecious plants - having both male and female flowers on same plant and some say that you need more than one VARIETY or cultivar, but as long as you have two different plants, this will be fine for a full set of berries. They are easy to grow and will reward any grower with a annual yield of fresh, awesome tasting blueberries. Grow enough and sell them at the farmers market or keep them and make preserves, jellies/jams or use them to bake with into pies, pancakes and cupcakes. Some like to add them to their favorite cereal and some just like to eat them right off the tree. These blue Berry saplings are about 6-8 inches and are young, so START THEM NOW is the time to plant for next season's Pie contests! Main growing information: Securely anchored rooted plants in very well draining soil, keep Soil pH low 4-5.5 and Full Sun HAVE FUN & ENJOY!

Citrus Trees Citrus trees are now cultivated to be able to weather the winter and many types of insects and diseases. The root stocks are sour but the trees are the sweet fruit graphed in which grow for many years and produce large amounts of fruit. Most citrus trees are able to withstand light frost as long as a freeze doesn't set in too long. It is best to remove the fruit if you know that a freeze is coming and cover your trees. Citrus fruits are hardy only to around 20°F, so growing them outdoors year-round is not an option for people who live in areas colder than Zone 8-9. Fortunately, several kinds of citrus make good container plants and may be grown in heated a greenhouse, many of which are highly ornamental and ever-blooming. Our citrus trees are grown in Zone 8-9.
